FaceBook Timeline Cover ~ Spring Has Sprung

I am using the cheerful Spring Into Spring scrapkit found at Scrappin' Sisters store by Babycakes Scraps.

I am using my own template creation found here.

This tutorial is a guide to help you get the most out of your timeline surface without losing anything such as text or images with the avatar and name placement by FaceBook.  This is only a guide using the supplies in the scrapkit I used.

This is going on the premise of you having the same kit as I do.  Most of my elements I resized anywhere from 17 percent on the tree, 7 percent on most flowers, word art and birds, 5 percent on other birds and 3 pixels on birdhouse.  Play around with the sizes to your liking.

I am using PSP 9 but am fairly certain any version will do.

No outside filters.

Let's get creative!

Open your template.  Shift D to duplicate and close out your original.

Delete Background and Credits layers.  Leave the Activity Log Placement, Average Name Placement and AV Placement layers visible.  This will help guide you with your element placement.

Open papers 1 and 7 from your kit.  I did not resize the papers.

Open up any elements you wish to use then minimize all elements.

On your Canvas layer Selections, Select All, Float, De-float.

Cope and paste your paper 1.  Selections, Invert, hit your delete key.

DO NOT de-select yet!!

Staying on the current layer choose your first element.  Copy and paste then resize and position where you like it without worrying about it hanging over the edge of your canvas.  Once you have it where you like then just hit your delete key.

Continue with the same process of copy, paste, re-size, position, delete.  Once finished with your canvas Selections, Select None.  Delete original Canvas layer.

Make your Border layer active.  Selections, Select All, Float, De-float.  Copy and paste paper 7.  Selections, Invert, Delete.  Delete original Border layer.

Delete your Activity Log Placement, Average Name Placement layer and the AV Placement layer.

Starting at the top add a drop shadow of your liking.  Click your next layer then hold down your Ctrl button and press Y to duplicate your drop shadow.  Move down your layers and repeat the Ctrl Y on each layer except bottom canvas.

Make sure to add proper credits to your timeline.  Per FaceBook you MAY NOT add URL's to the timeline.  Add your license and copyright information (without URL) if you are using a Pay to Use image and add the scrapkit designers name.

Once happy with your timeline, Layers, Merge, Merge Visible. Image, Canvas Size, 852 x 315, Center.  This will remove all excess around your new image.

Save as a JPEG.

To create a matching avatar open a 180x180 new image.  Flood fill with paper choice and elements you like or just put your name or initial.  Add your drop shadows, Layers, Merge All Flatten.  Selections, Select All, Selections, Modify, Select Selections Borders, Inside and Anti-Alias checked, Width at 3, OK.  Layers, New Raster Layer, Flood Fill border with color or paper of choice then add a drop shadow if you like.  Layers, Merge All Flatten.  Add proper credits.  Save as JPEG.

Hope you enjoy making lots of great timeline covers!

Here is another example using ScrapBCS_IB-BrigidAshwood-1A-1 also by Babycakes Scraps.

I am also using PinUp Toons Individual Tube 173-3.  You must have a license to use this artwork.  Please visit CDO for more information.
