Tutorial ~ PTU ~ Dark Thoughts

Supplies Needed

I am using the richly colored PTU scrapkit by Babycakes ScrapBCS_IB-AnnaMarine-31-2

I am using Anna Marine Individual Tube 6-1.  You must have a license to use Anna Marine's beautiful artwork.  You may purchase a license at CDO.

I am using a template by Rachel at Scraps of Enchantment.  It is Template 66 SOE09.  You can find the links to download on the right hand side of the blog.

No outside filters used.  I am using PSP 9 but assume any version will work for this tutorial.

I will be using abbreviations to make this a little more simple for you.

Selections, Select All, Float, Defloat = SAFD

Selections, Invert, Delete = SID

Selections, Select None = SSN

Copy and Paste = CP

Let's get started!

Open up tube, Shift D to duplicate and close out the original.  Open template, Shift D, close out original.

Delete Info layer on template.

Template active.  Image, Canvas Size, 712 width, 500 height, center arrow.

Black Square layer active.  SAFD.

If you are using the same tube I did make sure layer 1, bottom layer, is active.

CP your tube.  Resize tube layer to 98%, all layers unchecked.

Move your tube to where it is just barely hanging over the edge of the marching ants on the left and the angels wings are above the square but not the head of the angel.

Duplicate your tube layer.  Hide the duplicate layer and make sure you are on the original tube layer.  SID.  SSN.

This part will be the most time consuming and most elaborate of the tutorial.  It won't take that long but if you are not familiar with this process it might prove slower moving.  Remember you can always UNDO if you mess something up.

Make the duplicate tube layer active and unhide.  Take your eraser tool, Square, size 44.  Carefully start at the left edge of your duplicate tube layer and erase around the left, bottom and right edge.  Make sure you don't go near the top part of the image.

Work your way around the image till you have erased all but around the top edge.  Stop about here...

Now that this part is done the rest is fairly simple.

Make your original tube layer active.  Add drop shadow -3, 0, 50, 5, black.

Black square layer active.  SAFD.  Paper 3, CP, SID, SSN.  Delete Black Square layer.

Dark Grey layer active, SAFD, CP Paper 3, SID, SSN.  Delete Dark Grey layer.

Brush layer active, SAFD, CP Paper 1, SID, SSN.  Delete Brush layer.

Light Grey layer active, SAFD, CP Paper 1, SID, SSN.  Delete Light Grey Layer.

Hide both tube layers and bottom layer (brush layer).

Add a drop shadow to all open layers.  2, 2, 50, 5, black.  Change first two numbers to -2 and add drop shadows again to each open layer.  Layers, View, All.

Now this is where your creativity comes into play.  You can choose to use my tag as a guide or make it all your own.  Add elements from the kit, resize and adjust positions, add drop shadows.

When you are happy with your tag you can either leave it large or resize (all layers), add your copyright and license info, Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.

Add your text.  Save as a PNG.
